All figures are made up. The nursery has three rooms, 50 operating weeks and a 10.5-hour booked day. The model includes a September preschool reduction. It does not include tax or capital purchases. Staffing is a deployment illustration, not a compliance check.

Enter full-day booked places, not the number of children on roll. These are the starting bookings before the scenario changes.

Bookings, private fees and funded share apply to Preschool. Staff cost changes apply to every room. Your starting figures stay visible above.

More booked places are not evidence of demand. The staffing illustration costs each deployed person for the full day entered.

Behind the numbers

Set the operating assumptions.

Each month uses one twelfth of operating weeks. The September reduction applies to preschool bookings; recovery applies in October, November and December. January returns to the entered starting bookings. This is an editable illustration, not a predicted booking profile.

Leave with a clearer question

Take the decision into the real business.

Your brief records the inputs, starting position, scenario and monthly results. Use it to discuss the assumptions with your manager, accountant or TNB.

A £225 Single-Issue Review suits one defined question. A £795 Health Check suits several connected issues. See the scope and fees. Any applicable VAT is confirmed before you agree the work.

How this model works, and what to check before acting
  • All starting figures are made-up examples, not TNB client data, market averages, a forecast or a valuation. Full-day equivalent bookings are repeated across the entered operating weeks.
  • Room contribution is income less that room’s deployed staff and variable costs. Management and fixed costs are deducted at nursery level. Operating result is before tax, depreciation, financing costs and capital purchases. Loan payments affect the cash view only; the interest/principal split is not modelled.
  • Private daily fees are divided by the booked day length to price non-funded hours on funded days. Confirm your actual session tariffs, annual entitlement, local authority rate, funded hours and payment dates. Additional private hours are assumed to be booked and paid. Compulsory funded-hours top-ups are not assumed.
  • The room deployment illustration rounds staff up at 1:3 for babies, 1:5 for two-year-olds and the selected preschool assumption. Minimum teams are your planning choice. Zero bookings closes that room in the model. The entered hourly cost must include paid breaks, cover, leave and on-costs.
  • England’s EYFS ratios apply across the whole provision and depend on qualifications and other conditions. A 1:13 preschool assumption needs the relevant qualified teacher conditions. This tool neither checks those conditions nor certifies compliance. Safe staffing, children’s needs, the named rota and qualifications require separate review. Read the current EYFS framework.
  • Cash assumes operating costs and the loan payment are paid in the month shown. A one-month income delay uses the opening receipts entered for the first month. Tax, capital expenditure, bad debts, discounts and other working capital movements are excluded.
  • There is no automatic saving or sending of financial inputs. Downloads stay on your device. Choosing to discuss your decision passes a brief to the contact form in this browser; you review it before sending.
